The 2026 Iran war — where things stand (as of September 2, 2026)

The war began on February 28, 2026 with the joint U.S.–Israeli air campaign — Operation Epic Fury (U.S.) and Operation Roaring Lion (Israel) — and Iran's retaliation against Israel, U.S. bases and the Gulf states, including Iran's declared closure of the Strait of Hormuz. A ceasefire took effect on April 8 and the Islamabad Memorandum was signed on June 17, but the truce collapsed on July 8. Fighting resumed on August 30 with the U.S. strike on Larak Island; by September 1 U.S. forces had reported strikes on some 100 IRGC targets around the strait under a "tanker for tanker" policy, and Iran had fired missiles and drones at bases in Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait, the UAE and Erbil. This map has tracked reported strikes and military activity continuously since the campaign began. Follow the Iran war live updates, the Strait of Hormuz map and the Gulf states map.
